From very early on in his life, William Wallace Cranston's military career had a major impact on the rest of his life. 

Timeline Breakdown: 

Nov. 20, 1838- Born in Woodstock, Ohio

Oct. 10, 1861- Enlists at Urbana, Champaign County (22 years old)

Aug. 18, 1862- Sick in hospital in Alexandria, VA

July 1, 1862- Reduced in rank from Sergeant because of a misunderstanding

May 2, 1863- Helped to rescue a wounded Confederate soldier for which he was later awarded the Medal of Honor

May 12, 1863- Transferred to field as Sergeant Major

Dec. 14, 1863- Enlists into the army as veteran volunteer (farmer- occupation)

July 21, 1864- Injures his right groin at Battle at Peachtree Creek, later asking relief from duty

Aug. 25, 1864- Affirms Oath of Allegiance (near Atlanta, GA)

May 1, 1865- Affirms Oath of Allegiance (Ashburne, NC)

July 15, 1865- Honorably discharged (as Captain)

Mar. 20, 1866- Marries Jennie Elizabeth Fulton

Dec. 13, 1877- Files first invalid application

1888-1901- Serves on the Kansas State House of Representatives 28th District

Dec. 15, 1892- Awarded the Medal of Honor

Dec. 12, 1907- Dies in Kansas of digestive complications (66 years old)
