Legacy

Cranston’s legacy includes many aspects. His graffiti at Ben Lomond House cements his permanence in historical evidence, providing viewers with a sense of his presence. In addition, his pension and military records provide a picture of how his injury shaped the rest of his life, not only affecting his military career in his numerous relief requests but also potentially in his career change and his later medical issues that caused an early death. However, a major accomplishment in his life was winning the Medal of Honor for helping a wounded Confederate soldier at Chancellorsville. His wife and children outlived him, as shown in his pension records.
