Upon returning to Ohio, Captain Cranston returned to farming, and married Jennie Fulton on March 20, 1866.

Family tree detailing the immediate family of William Wallace Cranston.

William and Jennie Cranston welcomed three children: Arthur Fulton Cranston (1867-1954) , Charles  Oscar Cranston (1869- 1920), and Florance Maud Cranston (1873-.1951). Arthur started his adult life as a farmer before deciding to return to school to study law. Oscar, attended school at the Kansas City Medical College, receiving his medical degree in 1894. Dr. Cranston married his wife Mildred, and together they have two daughters. Daughter, Florance married Alvah Carter, and became a mother to three children: Jean, Ruth, Aleene.

Letter dated September 27, 1907, from William Wallace Cranston to his sister Mary. 

In a September letter to his sister Mary, Mr. Cranston details his failing health and the hardships he was facing as a result of the Kansas weather.  Three months after this letter was composed   

Mr. Cranston found his body deteriorating, and in 1907, he was subjected to a number of months of suffering of stomach ailments, before dying at his home on December 7, 1907. He was cared for by his son, Dr. Charles Oscar Cranston in his final days and moments.
