Once in Parson, Mr. Cranston quickly became a leader within the community.  His civic duty was once again called into play, this time to serve in a political role.  In 1889, William ran for the Kansas State House of Representatives under the republican ticket for his home district 28.  Representative Cranston served in the Kansas State House of Representatives until 1891. In 1891, William retired from political life, and quietly lived out his days with Jennie in Parson.
